  The buildup of limescale, mineral deposits and stains on hard surfaces typically results from the evaporation of water and soil containing such minerals and staining agents. The "harder" (more mineral -laden) the water, the greater the occurrence of such minerals bonding to the surface, unless such water and soil is removed and the surface is dried before evaporation. With every re-deposit of such water and soil, "layers" are formed and bond to each other as "crust-like" buildup.
