Frequently Asked Questions about Unelko's "Barrier" Technology
What are Sani Shield and Sani Scrub "Barrier Technologies?
The technology behind the newly patented Sani Shield and Sani Scrub is a multi- functional approach to cleaning and ongoing surface maintenance. These remarkable 3 in 1 products provide three benefits with each use. The products are formulated to clean with the oxidizing power of hydrogen peroxide or aluminum oxide, shield surfaces to prevent build-up of everyday soil and grime for easier next time cleaning, and simultaneously provides a lasting "antimicrobial" barrier on which odor causing bacteria, mold and mildew will not grow. The invisible "barrier" that is automatically bonded to the surface with each cleaning, protects the surface from contaminates that create unsightly stains, odors and the deterioration of the millions of square feet of surfaces in homes and facilities today.
What is the purpose behind this New "Barrier" Technology?
It is irrefutable that no matter how much we clean…dirt, grime and surface germs such as odor causing bacteria, mold and mildew keep coming back! The purpose behind the newly patented Sani Shield and Sani Scrub "barrier" technology is simple. The products reduce the adhesion and build-up of soil and grime and the never ending process of everyday cleaning. They save users time, labor and money associated with having to maintain surfaces on a never ending daily basis with costly, harmful chemicals. Sani Shield and Sani Scrub are a new "smart" way to care for your surfaces and a "preventive" maintenance approach to cleaning. Sani Shield, Sani Scrub and Stainless Shine keep surfaces sanitary!
How Does Sani Shield and Sani Scrub work?
The science behind the development of Sani Shield and Sani Scrub is a unique synergy between hydrogen peroxide or aluminum oxide and the unique "barrier" qualities of organo silane quaternary coatings. The active ingredients in Sani Shield and Sani Scrub deep clean organic and inorganic soil from the surface and simultaneously oxidize the surface allowing the organosilane monomers to condense, cross link and bond to the surface forming its protective shield. Importantly, once the protective barrier is formed, it is non-reactive, non-leaching and leaves no excess surfactants or biocides on the surface. The durable hydrophobic barrier renders the surface non-stick or water, soil and stain repellent and eliminates the nutrients and moisture that odor causing bacteria, mold and mildew need to survive.
Why use Sani Shield and Sani Scrub instead of other products?
Sani Shield and Sani Scrub are multi benefit products that are as easy to use as a simple spray and wipe or scrub and flush cleaner. They take the guesswork out of surface hygiene because the barrier that is left behind on the surface is continually working to inhibit the spread and growth of damaging microbes such as odor causing bacteria, mold and mildew. The "shielding" effect on the surface also prevents the sticking of unsightly build-up and stains. Unlike other products, there is no need to pre-clean or flood the surface or wait for lengthy dwell times. Sani Shield and Sani Scrub clean, shield, and protect surfaces in just 1 Easy Step! The products make for easier next time cleaning, keeps surfaces cleaner, fresher and brighter. Sani Shield and Sani Scrub save cleaning time, excess labor and the cost of all of those unnecessary often harmful chemicals. Sani Shield and Sani Scrub leave surfaces as hygienically clean as they can be.
How often should I use Sani Shield and Sani Scrub, and how long does the Barrier last?
Sani Shield and Sani Scrub are designed to be used daily, weekly or monthly; depending upon the level of soiling and your cleaning or maintenance schedule. Surfaces stay cleaner for longer periods due to the barrier that significantly reduces the adhesion and build-up of soil and films. The Sani Shield barrier is extremely durable and will continue to provide benefits indefinitely as long as the surface is intact and you periodically re-use the product. The barrier lasts for months depending upon re-application and is automatically replenished with each use of Sani Shield. The product is designed to be used over and over due to its outstanding cleaning properties and will never build up. The barrier is absolutely invisible, it is unaffected by soaps or solvents, wont crack, peal or discolor and is non-leaching. Although we recommend the use of Sani Shield daily as your primary surface cleaner, you may also use the product periodically, weekly or monthly to maintain the protective "antimicrobial" barrier.
Is Sani Shield and Sani Scrub Environmentally and User Safe?
Sani Shield and Sani Scrub have been exhaustively tested in accordance with all OPPTS, the Federal Hazardous Substances Act and Consumer Product Safety Commission Guidelines. They are rated the lowest category by EPA health and safety standards and are user and earth safe. They contain no harsh acids or alkalis, ammonia, phosphates, VOC's, terpenes, quaternary ammonium compounds, phenols and chlorine bleach. When used as directed they leave only water and oxygen or with Sani Scrub aluminum oxide or grit which is easily rinsed. Unlike other commonly used cleaners, they emit no fumes, require no gloves or masks and promote an ecological and economical method of cleaning. The use of Sani Shield eliminates the need for all of those other harsh cleaners or abrasives which may impact users and our environment.
Where and on what surfaces should Sani Shield and Sani Scrub be used?
Due to the versatility of these patented and patent pending technologies, Sani Shield and Sani Scrub can be used on all hard surfaces and most soft surfaces. These include glass, porcelain, and ceramic, polished and painted metals, marble, granite, stone, cement, plastics, clothing, linen, carpets, and other bleach safe fabrics such as carpet. While it is best to spray and wipe Sani Shield onto hard surfaces, the products are effective and may be sprayed onto surfaces and allowed to air dry. This method of application is ideal for hard to reach areas or where the method of application is more practical such as on a large carpeted or outdoor areas.
Is there a test or other method to prove the Sani Shield Barrier is working and still on the surface?
Yes, there are a number of Surface Swab Test devices available such as a Luminometer which are widely used in the Health Care, Food and other industries. These devices test for ATP Soil Protein which is produced and found in all living cells and are a general gauge of the soil load on a surface. If one of those devices is not available, a simple way to test for the presence of the Barrier is to spray the surface with water to see if the water bubbles or beads up on the surface. If the surface is water, soil and stain repellant then the barrier is intact and working to protect the surface.
Is Sani Shield or Sani Scrub EPA Registered?
Unelko has been marketing its Sani Shield and Sani Scrub products for the past year or so under the EPAs "Treated Article Exemption" which is provided for products that are treated with or have "barrier" that resists or inhibits the growth of degenerative microbes such as odor causing, bacteria mold and mildew on a surface. Due to a recent EPA complaint against Unelko for making unregistered pesticidal claims and the subsequent settlement of that complaint with the EPA by Unelko, Unelko has taken EPAs advice and has submitted its applications for registration of the Sani Shield, Sani Scrub and Stainless Shine Products. We anticipate obtaining such registrations shortly which will allow us to make additional claims for the products. Until such time and due to the current EPA regulations, Unelko is unable to make any specific germ or other public health claims for the products. We encourage end-users to test the products for themselves in their facilities to verify the incredible performance and surface hygiene efficacy of the products.
Last year, the world used millions upon millions of gallons of chemicals to clean the surfaces in our homes and public facilities. Is their a more effective way to achieve proper surface hygiene. We think so!
